The key is the portal design, which positions the axle shaft above the wheel hub, using internal gears to significantly boost ground clearance. This innovative design delivers a substantial 4-inch (10 cm) suspension lift and provides 10 cm of additional ground clearance under the differential, all while requiring no modification to the existing suspension or steering geometry. Furthermore, the portal gear ratio (a factor of 1.16) reduces the load on the complete drivetrain, which is typically beneficial when dealing with oversized tires.Our “Bolt On Portals” are engineered for reliable installation onto existing axles. They utilize a four-cogwheel system to maintain the axle’s rotating direction and distribute the load across multiple tooth flanks, ensuring reliable power transmission with minimal heat generation. This gear reduction also modifies the overall axle ratio, making it possible to install wheels up to 25 cm larger than stock without the need for expensive differential gear ratio adjustments. The vehicle’s everyday suitability and ABS function remain intact, with the maximum speed limited to 160 km/h.
